POSITION:               Library Media Specialist

 

EFFECTIVE DATE:    2021/2022 School Year

 

REPORTS TO:           Building Principal

 

LOCATION:              Bell / Walnut Elementary Schools

 

SALARY:                  According to Negotiated Contract

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Library Media Specialist is responsible for ensuring students and staff are effective and ethical users of ideas and information. ... Collaborate with teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons, units of instruction, assess student learning and instructional effectiveness

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, students, parents and the general public; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • collaborates with classroom teachers as a partner in the instructional process
  • collaborates to design, teach, and assess learning experiences that incorporate inquiry learning, information literacies in their formats, critical thinking and self-assessment
  • promotes a love of reading and lifelong learning
  • promotes instructional technology to improve learning
  • teaches students to build on prior knowledge to construct new knowledge
  • fosters a creative, flexible environment so that the school library is an essential part of the learning community
  • develops and maintains resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and instructional strategies of the school community
  • establishes procedures for selection, acquisition, circulation, resource sharing of resources in all formats
  • evaluates, promotes and uses existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning
  • promotes the ethical use of information: copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual proper

 JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Active and valid PA Certification-Library Sciences K-12
  • Minimum of 3 years of school based experience
  • Understanding and familiarity with computer applications
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must be able to obtain or currently have all background clearances (Federal, PA State, & Child Abuse).
