Position Summary:  The ideal candidate will support the District’s mission and vision, and have the primary responsibility to plan and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons that meet state-mandated standards. Each teacher will also communicate regularly and effectively with students/parents

 

The Dean of Students is a teacher leadership position that is fully released from teaching duties that:

  • Assists in the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) system. 
  • Assists in the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all student mentoring activities.
  • Works closely with, coordinates, and plans with all House Leaders and the programs they develop and run with their students relating to PBIS and mentoring. 
  • Working with the principal and other school leaders, will help maintain an effective student centered learning climate in the school
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct. Is responsible for teacher and office referrals. Enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process and the rights of students

The William Penn School District is Located in southeastern Delaware County and serves approximately 5,000 students who reside in Aldan, Colwyn, Darby, East Lansdowne, Lansdowne, and Yeadon Boroughs. Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties: 

  • Assists in maintaining the health, safety, and welfare of students and staff. 
  • Establishes procedures for the security and accountability of all school facilities, property and equipment which includes safety plans, evacuation procedures, emergency management. 
  • Assist the administrative team in the development and administration of disciplinary procedures in accordance with District policy and state law; receive referrals and confer with students, parents, teachers, community agencies, and law enforcement relative to student disciplinary matters; respond to and resolve parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints relative to student behavior; prepare for and offer testimony in disciplinary proceedings, and maintain records of disciplinary action taken to ensure that the discipline policy is administered in a fair and just manner and that an optimum learning environment is maintained.
  • Collaborate with faculty in the enforcement and implementation of the rules and other regulations of the student code of conduct to effect positive student behavior in the school.
  • Assist in the development of and oversee the implementation, distribution, and orientation of the student handbook and code of conduct to ensure that students and parents/guardians are aware of District and school policies and procedures.
  • Provide documentation and suggestions to the building principal regarding serious disciplinary infractions, including, but not limited to, assignment to alternative placements, suspension, and expulsion. 
  • Manage, interpret, and utilize data, including behavioral data, to address students’ individual, academic, and emotional needs in collaboration with administration and faculty.
  • Conduct research on student discipline and welfare with parents, faculty, counselors, support service personnel, students, and other school districts in order to make recommendations for revising discipline policy and procedures.
  • Assist in the supervision of the arrival and departure of students in order to minimize confusion and to ensure student safety.
  • Assist in compiling data and preparing reports for various state, federal, and foundation reports and grants.
  • Actively participate in and successfully complete required trainings, in-service programs, workshops, and meetings. 
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local laws, as well as District policies, procedures, and contractual obligations in areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to be in regular and consistent attendance throughout the work year.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of promoting student achievement

  • Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others. 
  • Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff, students, and patrons of the District. 
  • Ability to understand and hold self and others accountable for promoting and attaining the goals as outlined in Focus Forward 2025
  • Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage. 
  • Knowledge of PA Core Standards and Eligible Content 
  • Knowledge of Instructional Planning Guides as it relates to the instructional block 
  • Knowledge of Digital Curriculum components 
  • Ability to courageously lead conversations focused on equity, closing opportunity gaps, and equal access to technology-infused lessons of rigor. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parents or guardians, outside agencies, and the public, in a multi-ethnic, multicultural, multilingual environment. 
  • Ability to receive and implement feedback to improve practice and systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university
  • Valid Pennsylvania Certification: PK-12 or 7-12 Certification or a confirmed pathway to certification
  • 2+ years of experience implementing, coordinating and supervising a PBIS program and curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Education or a related field of study
  • 2+ years of experience teaching in education environments

  • Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check, FBI Fingerprinting Background Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
  • Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release (Act 168) forms 
  • School Personnel Health Record and TB test

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
  • Indoor office environment is subject to frequent interruptions
  • Pushing, moving and lifting objects with a strength factor of light work
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of standard office equipment
  • Clarity of vision at varying distances
  • Verbal, auditory and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
  • Sitting and standing for extended periods of time
  • Frequent sitting, standing and walking
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies
  • Lifting objects with a strength factor of light work

  • Occasional pulling, pushing

Level of Compensation: $50,110 - $101,320 (dependent on Step and Track placement as determined based on collective bargaining agreements)
